TWENTY-TWO people died after a South Africa-bound Toyota Quantum commuter omnibus collided with a truck along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway on Tuesday night.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday said the accident occurred at the 27km peg near Thandweni store.
The commuter omnibus, carrying 21 passengers, collided head-on with a DAF truck which had one passenger on board.
The kombi driver and all 21 passengers died in the accident, while the truck driver and his passenger are admitted to United Bulawayo Hospitals.
Meanwhile, three people died while three others were injured when a Toyota Corolla Axio vehicle carrying five passengers veered off the road and overturned along Eastern Border Road in Chipinge on Monday.
Troy Nyangombe (20), Joyline Paraffin (18) and Rutendo Chikwanda (20), all from Chipinge, were thrown out of the vehicle and died on the spot.
Their bodies were taken to Chipinge District Hospital, while one of the survivors is admitted to the same hospital.
The other two were taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare. In another road accident on Tuesday morning, six people were killed, while three others were injured when a Nissan Caravan they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a Mercedes-Benz truck along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway in Mwenezi.

The deceased were identified as Blessing Rambiwa (40), Jesina Masimba (35) and Pellagia Manase (53), all from Chiredzi, as well as Kamukono Musaida (44) of Chimanimani.
Two victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin.
In Harare, police are appealing for information which may assist in the location of relatives of Innocent Mlambo (37) who died on October 11, 2023 after being run over by a Harare City Council front-end loader while sleeping at a dumpsite at corner Bute and Harare Street in the capital.
Mlambo’s body is at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary.
