POLICE in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North province, are investigating a suspected murder case of a six-year-old girl whose body was found hanging from the roof trusses.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the death of Lethukuthula Tshuma from Tshelu Tshelu area, saying police are currently seized with the matter.
“On September 10, around 2:30pm, the girl was seen playing outside their house alongside other children. She then went to her grandmother who was in the kitchen with her neighbour to inform her that she was hungry. After eating, she went outside to continue playing. The neighbour then went to the garden to attend to the goats that had invaded the vegetable area,” Banda said.
He added: “That is when she saw the little girl hanging from the veranda at the house next to the kitchen. The neighbour then informed the deceased’s grandmother and they brought the body down, showing signs of being alive, but she died before being taken to the hospital,” Banda said.
The deceased’s body was transported to Bulawayo United Hospitals for post-mortem where it was confirmed that there was foul play leading to her death.
“I encourage parents and guardians to carefully look after children. When people have differences, they should resort to dialogue, and avoid violence by all means possible,” Banda said.
