Karoi memorial service cancelled as mass burials held

KAROI, Aug. 16 (NewsDay Live) — A planned memorial service for victims of the Mbuya Nehanda boat disaster was cancelled in Karoi at the weekend as families across Hurungwe and Kariba buried their loved ones.The service, organised by the Hurungwe District Development Coordinator’s office, Karoi Town Council and the Hurungwe Pastors Fraternity, was called off at the eleventh hour after several pastors left to preside over burials of victims of the disaster.Mass burials were held at Yawanda Farm in Chief Dendera’s area, where three members of the Nzeromubairi family were laid to rest. The deceased were identified as family head Penjeni Nzeromubairi, his wife Mollin Mandirera and their son Cain Nzeromubairi. Two other family members, Felistus Nzeromubairi and Emmanuel Siambamba, remain missing.
