SEVERAL vehicles, including fuel tankers, were destroyed after a fire broke out at Blaze Fuel Garage opposite DA Garage along Godrich Road in Bulawayo on Monday night.
The fire spread to a neighbouring yard, owned by George Cherai, destroying Container Carriers, three large trucks, a bus and two cars.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident, saying the premises affected were now under police guard.
According to Msebele, on January 26 at around 10:30pm, station manager Qhubulwazi Moyo of the Bulawayo fire brigade received a report of the blaze.
“Moyo was at work when he received a report that the premises opposite DA Garage, along Godrich Road, were on fire,” she said.
Investigations revealed that the yard belongs to Sheunopa Shoko, a shareholder at Eastern Petroleum Fuel Garage in Belmont.
“Inside the yard, two large tanker vehicles, two medium tanker vehicles, five mini tanker vehicles and one Toyota Hiace were destroyed by the fire,” she said, adding that a German shepherd dog was also found with burns.
Msebele said the fire brigade suspected the cause of the fire to be an illegal electricity connection.
