VICTORIA Falls, Mar.28 (NewsDayLive) - Zimbabwe has been tasked by her regional peers to champion Sadc industrialisation initiatives.
This was revealed by the director of industrial development and trade for the Sadc secretariat, Dhunraj Kassee, at the ongoing 40th Sadc Technical Barriers to Trade Cooperation Structures meeting in the resort city of Victoria Falls.
Kassee said President Emmerson Mnangagwa had agreed to lead the initiative.
"When we met the President in Harare, I had the pleasure of notifying His Excellency of the secretariat's decision to have Zimbabwe as the member state that should lead the way in terms of industrial growth in the region," he said.
He said the decision came after Zimbabwe successfully hosted the 7th Annual Sadc Industrialisation Week in Harare last year.
The honourary status means that Zimbabwe would have to implement systems that promote industrial growth and act as a beacon for other member states to emulate.
