
HARARE, Mar.25 (NewsDayLive) - Police on Monday intercepted a truck carrying unregistered medicines at Murombedzi growth point in Mashonaland West province following a tip off, and arrested 14 suspected drug dealers.
According to police, the truck driver Justice Nyika and his two assistants, Prosper Maphosa and Clarence Ncube indicated that they had picked up the drugs from Bulawayo for delivery to clients in Harare.
The trio was arrested on the spot and went on to implicate the other 11.
These were identified as Brenda Sango, Rumbidzai Chinyamakobvu, Nelany Gutsire, Tafadzwa Makwarimba, Charles Kakomwe, Rufaro Munyanyi, Epiphania Norest Moyo, Beauty Madamombe, Masculine Dziva Portia Chimombe and Tambudzai Shoko - all from Harare.
The arrest led to the recovery of 815 boxes of Broncleer, 77 boxes of Benyln cough syrup, and 162 boxes of Adeo Salteryn cough syrup.
The latest arrest came as cases of drug abuse are reportesly on the rise, especially among the youths.
