HEART & Soul TV senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga will be back at the High Court this morning for ruling on his appeal against a magistrates court decision that denied him bail following his arrest on February 24.
High Court judge Justice Gibson Mandaza on Tuesday reserved judgment on Mhlanga’s appeal saying he needed more time to go through submissions made in court.
Mhlanga has spent 25 days in prison after he was arrested on charges of inciting public violence.
The State alleged that he published videos recorded at a Press conference held by former Zanu PF central committee member and war veteran Blessed “Bombshell” Geza who demanded President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s resignation.
Harare magistrate Farai Gwitima denied Mhlanga freedom, arguing that he was likely to interfere with witnesses if granted bail.
The journalist took the matter up with the High Court, arguing that the lower court erred in denying him bail.
Police have launched a manhunt for Geza on charges of incitement to violence, undermining the authority of the President and theft.
Mhlanga’s arrest was condemned by local and international free Press lobby groups, who said it was a violation of media freedom.
