HARARE, Mar.19 (NewsDayLive)- Energy and Power Development minister July Moyo has told Parliament that the power utility is struggling to replace over 6 000 transformers that were vandalised since last year, resulting in some public institutions going for months without electricity.

Addressing legislators during a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly, Moyo said Zesa's subsidiary company, Zent, has no capacity to replace the vandalised infrastructure.

"The main problem we are facing is vandalism of infrastructure and as we speak 6 000 transformers were stolen countrywide and we have no capacity locally to produce enough to timeously replace them,” he said.

"For the wooden poles, the policy we now have is that we replace them with concrete ones which are more durable.”
