HARARE, March 18 (NewsDayLive) - The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, in partnership with Elevate Trust, will from tomorrow host the Women in Science, Technology, and Innovation (WiSTI) Conference 2025 as part of efforts to empower women and girls in the fields of science and technology./The conference, scheduled for March 19 to 21 at the Harare International Conference Centre, is running under the theme, "Accelerate Action: Women Driving Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development."

In a statement, Higher and Tertiary Education secretary Fanuel Tagwira said the conference is aimed at empowering women in science and technology fields to leverage their innovative capabilities, and promote collaboration among women, academia, industry, and policymakers.

He added that the conference will also inspire the younger generation—particularly young women and girls—to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)."The role of women in driving innovation and sustainable development cannot be overstated. Women have the power to transform their communities, industries, and nations through their contributions to science and technology," Tagwira said."The Ministry is deeply committed to ensuring that Zimbabwe's development journey is inclusive and that women actively participate and excel in all sectors, particularly in the traditionally male-dominated STEM fields," he said.

The WiSTI Conference aligns with Zimbabwe's commitment to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDGs 4 and 5, which advocate for quality education and gender equality.
