HARARE, Jan 30 (NewsDay Live) Three inmates at Harare Remand Prison have been sentenced to 20 years each for aggravated indecent assault after sexually abusing a fellow prisoner.

The trio of Kingswell Ngwerume (32), Kudakwashe Mazorodze (35), and Lazarus Chinobhururuka (40) was convicted by regional magistrate Loice Mukunyadze on Thursday.

Prosecutor Munyaradzi Muza told the court that the incident occurred on the night of August 11, 2024.

The court heard that the complainant, an inmate who had been placed in custody at Harare Remand Prison, was instructed by Mazorodze to enter Cell C2, which housed nine other inmates, including Ngwerume and Chinobhururuka.

At around midnight, the trio took turns to sexually abuse the complainant.

After the assault, the trio returned to their respective sleeping spaces.

The complainant, traumatised by the ordeal, reported the matter to a prison officer the following morning when the cell was opened.
