Reckless truck driver convicted

HARARE, Jan 28 (NewsDayLive) - A 24-year-old truck driver from Kuwadzana high-density suburb was Tuesday convicted on his own plea of guilty to causing the death of a 56-year-old man in a road traffic accident last month.

Ignatius Hereki was convicted for culpable homicide by magistrate Apollonia Marutya who initially sentenced him to an18-month jail term which was later suspended  on condition he performs 420 hours at Kuwadzana Polyclinic.

Hereki's driver's licence was cancelled.

The court heard that on  December 7 last year, Hereki was driving a UD truck along Harare Street and hit Rocksen Mabena, killing him on the spot.
