Gardener steals  employer's US$70k,confesses 11 months later

A gardener from Greendale Avenue, Harare, has appeared before magistrate  Sharon Rakafa on charges of stealing US$70 000 from his employer

HARARE, Jan 27 (NewsDayLive) - A gardener from Greendale Avenue, Harare, has appeared before magistrate  Sharon Rakafa on charges of stealing US$70 000 from his employer before returning part of the loot.

Collin Mubvumbi (43) was remanded in custody to today for bail application.

The complainant in this case is Chakanyuka Nyatanga.

Prosecutor Takudzwa Mutyavaviri told the court that Mubvumbi worked at Nyatanga's house as a gardener from 2013 up to September 2024, and had full access to his employer's house.

Sometime in November 2023, Nyatanga left US$70 000 hidden in a fitted wardrobe. Mubvumbi allegedly entered the bedroom , unscrewed part of the fitted wardrobe and stole the money.
