A MEMBER of the Central Intelligence Organisation employed as a security aide last week pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful entry.

He broke into Home Affairs ministry offices.

Appearing before Harare magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu last week, George Marufu (32) pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances. He is expected in court today for sentencing.

Prosecutor Dzidzai Josiah told the court that on October 17 last year, Martin Jimu was on duty and left everything intact after securing all doors and windows.

During the night, Marufu gained entry to the premises and used the elevator to access the 13th Floor where he entered Emmanuel Kahute’s office and stole an HP ProBook laptop computer, laptop power pack and a pair of sheets before disappearing.

On October 23, Jimu discovered the offence and reported the matter to the police.

Marufu was arrested on January 10 this year.

The court heard that Marufu reported at the reception at Mukwati Building intending to proceed to the 20th Floor and he produced his CIO and national identity cards.

Prosecutor Dzidzai Josiah further said Marufu failed to give a satisfactory explanation on why he was going to that floor and he walked away.

Marufu was ordered to stop, but he ran and was apprehended by members of the public.

Police detectives recovered the laptop from Kudzai Mutswangwa who had bought it from Marufu for US$80.

Meanwhile, on another count which occurred in November last year, Marufu gained entry to the premises and proceeded to 20th Floor and opened the window.

He walked along the balcony and entered George Marunga’s office through the window and stole two Infinity laptops and three HP laptops before disappearing.

Jimu discovered the offence the following day and made a police report leading to the arrest of Marufu.
