Trial of ZNA legal officer postponed

The matter failed to kick off after the suspended Council for Legal Education secretary Huggins Duri told the court that his lawyer was not feeling well.

HARARE magistrate Taurai Manuwere yesterday postponed the case of suspended Zimbabwe National Army legal officer Grace Kurasha who is being accused of doctoring her certificates.

The matter failed to kick off after the suspended Council for Legal Education secretary Huggins Duri told the court that his lawyer was not feeling well.

It also emerged that Kurasha’s legal practitioners Malvin Mapako and Admire Rubaya were attending another court case.

Kurasha, who is being jointly charged with Duri, will appear in court on February 5 for possible trial commencement.

Prosecutor Ngoni Kaseke alleged that sometime in 2020, Kurasha graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Lusaka in Zambia.

Kurasha reportedly later enrolled for a University of Zimbabwe bridging course for external law graduates to practise in the country.

She did not complete the course, but allegedly fraudulently acquired a practising certificate from the Council for Legal Education.

She allegedly gave one Shorai Mupunga US$1 000 to give to Duri, who was the executive secretary at the council to facilitate the issuance of the certificate.

Kurasha later applied to the High Court to be admitted as a legal practitioner using the forged certificate.
