A NATIONAL Schools Excellence Awards, a prestigious programme aimed at celebrating outstanding achievements in the country's education sector, is on the cards.

Organised by the National Excellence Enterprise, the awards are designed to recognise and reward schools, educators and students who demonstrate excellence in various areas, including academic performance, infrastructural development, leadership and innovation.

The awards will be held in March.

“Our objective is to promote a culture of excellence in education, encourage healthy competition among schools and inspire educators and students to strive for greatness,” said National Excellence Enterprise secretary Tatenda Mutsengi.

“We believe that by celebrating outstanding achievements in education, we can motivate schools to improve their standards and ultimately contribute to the development of a more educated and skilled workforce and also reduce the effect of brain drain.

“We are now calling for nominations from the public, schools and organisations. If you know of a school that excels in academic performance, has outstanding infrastructure or demonstrates exceptional leadership, we encourage you to nominate it.”

Mutsengi said nominations could also be made for individual educators, students or science projects that have made a significant impact.

He said the National Schools Excellence Awards would be presented at a ceremony where winners would receive recognition and rewards for their outstanding achievements.

National Excellence Enterprise president Johannes Marisa said the education sector had done so much and deserved recognition.

“Recognition and awards are of great importance to motivation and benchmarking. Many schools have excelled in academic and co-curricular activities and it is high time their efforts were rewarded,” Marisa said.

“We need to continue stimulating educators, students and all other relevant stakeholders in the education sector.”
