INFORMATION, Publicity and Broadcasting Services minister Jenfan Muswere has bemoaned the proliferation of hate speech in the Zimbabwean media saying this does not contribute to nation-building.

In an interview with NewsDay at his Munhumutapa offices in the capital recently, Muswere said his ministry was there to unite the country.

“I don’t like hate speech, hate speech does not contribute to nation-building, this is what we expect as a nation because we are all Zimbabweans and we should have one objective of building our nation,” he said.

“Have you ever heard President Emmerson Mnangagwa preaching hate speech, he is a man of unity. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has what we call the presidential scheme which is benefiting everyone even those in the opposition parties.

“During our provincial tours we are hiring one bus and we are giving journalists time to interact with each other despite coming from various media outlets.”

Muswere said he had engaged editors from various media outlets urging them to promote the country which would help in nation-building.

The Information ministry is currently conducting media tours of signature projects that were carried out last year. The tours began in Harare before spreading to Mashonaland East and Manicaland provinces.

The media tour will also be taken to Mashonaland West province.

Journalists are expected to interview captains of industry in the next tour, according to Muswere.
