THE Zanu PF provincial leadership in Manicaland has applauded Mutasa Central legislator Innocent Benza for winning the constituency after 15 years in the hands of opposition party.

Benza, who is the most senior Manicaland provincial member as secretary for legal affairs, received the plaudits at Zanu PF’s Mutasa inter-district meeting held in Penhalonga this week.

Benza wrested the constituency from opposition, which won the seat since 2008.

In the 2023 general elections, Benza defeated Dixon Chekeche by a wide margin.

Zanu PF Mutasa district co-ordinating committee (DCC) chairman Washington Ziwiwi applauded voters in Mutasa district for their support for the ruling party.

“We have three constituencies in Mutasa district and we have done well in the last elections,” he said.

“We won the Mutasa Central constituency, which had been dominated by the opposition party for many years.”

Ziwiwi said the district was leading in the cell re-structuring and selling of party membership cards.

In his remarks, Taurai Manhiri, from Watsomba in Mutasa, said Benza worked very hard to win the seat.

“We want to thank Honourable Innocent Benza for winning Mutasa Central constituency in 2023 elections,” Manhiri said.

“He worked very hard to win the seat with developmental projects and his humbleness while he is always in the constituency.”

Mutasa district has three constituencies, namely Mutasa South, North and Central.

Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Misheck Mugadza is the Mutasa South MP, while Obey Bvute is the Mutasa North legislator.
