ZNCC restrategisises towards business growth

THE Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) says it will continue laying strategies that enhance business in the country and beyond in order to nourish the business sector.

In an interview with NewsDay Business, ZNCC chief executive officer Chris Mugaga revealed that the strategies will not only focus on Zimbabwe, but have an influence in the region as the chamber seeks to elevate the business sector.

“One of our strategies is to grow membership to become one of the biggest private sector bodies within the region, not only in Zimbabwe,” he said.

“We are also building a premier training school in the Chamber of Commerce which will be modelled in the same way as the London Chamber of Commerce and to train leadership.”

Presenting his 2025 national budget statement last November, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion minister Mthuli Ncube projected the country’s economy to grow by 6% this year, driven by improved electricity generation and a recovery in the agricultural sector.

However, Mugaga noted that several challenges continue to impact daily business activities.

He urged businesses to remain vigilant and adapt to these difficulties while seeking solutions.

He, however, said despite the hurdles that have risen within the business sector, the chamber is dedicated in fostering a resilient and innovative private sector that can adapt to rapidly changing economic landscape.

“As a private sector, operating in Zimbabwe our focus right now is depending on strategies to conscientise our members that electricity challenges will remain and current problems in the near future will remain,” Mugaga said.

“So if you are to operate a business, let’s operate the business knowing fully well that those challenges are going to exist. That’s how we expect to manage it.”

He also highlighted the chamber’s dedication to promoting and strengthening corporate governance systems in accordance with constitutional guidelines.

“Our approach will involve a deeper commitment to evidence-based research, focusing on industrial and scientific data,” the ZNCC chief executive officer said.

“This is part of our overarching strategy for 2025, and we will continue to uphold strong corporate governance within our organisation. We adhere to our constitution and do not alter it arbitrarily.”
