POLICE have moved in to investigate the sprouting of disciplinary camps that have recently found their way into the country.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said following complaints from concerned citizens, they would follow up on the raised issues regarding mainly one camp, the Matrix, which is being run by one Tafadzwa Chidawa.

“We need our police officers to go on the ground and find out the status of this thing which we are referring to, checking for things like, is it registered? Who is running it? So definitely, we need officers to go on the ground,” he said.

“We need to check and ensure that the law takes its course on illegal activities, if any.

“The country has got laws to be observed that’s why I’m saying we need to check and find out if this Matrix is registered and operating in terms of the country’s laws.”

The disciplinary programme has been met with mixed reactions, the majority of whom are of praise.

Many parents believe it is a much-needed intervention though there is need to revise issues to do with children’s privacy.

Issues of drug and substance use have been rampant, leading moral decadence among teenagers, who are the main target of the programme which takes children from seven years to 24.

Most of the participants in the camp are teenagers with issues ranging from drug use, indiscipline, fleeing from home, theft, disrespect and early engagement into sexual activities, among many others.

A majority of these issues are linked to excessive drug use.
