GOVERNMENT has failed to remit funds deducted from teachers’ subscriptions to all teacher unions, plunging the unions into financial disarray.

Government normally disburses the funds to the respective teacher unions on the date they receive their salaries, but this month, the unions have complained that the employer has allegedly failed to disburse the funds to them, leaving them struggling to pay staff salaries and other bills.

This month, teachers got their salaries on December 17.

SSB Paymaster TwoBoy Shoko yesterday confirmed to NewsDay that the payment had not yet been effected.

“I am processing the payments,” he said.

“They should be receiving the funds tomorrow.

“Those who complained that they haven’t received the fund do not have the facts.

“I am actually working on the payments.”

Last month, government delayed paying teachers their local currency salary component, which resulted in the educators getting their salaries two week later.
