CHIEF Chundu, real name Abel Mbasera, has urged youths to shun poaching to avoid loss of life.
Speaking during the burial of two suspected poachers who were shot dead recently inside the Marongora Game Park, Chief Chundu said losing young people in such circumstances was unfortunate.
“The death of two suspected poachers who were shot after confrontational approach with rangers is distressing,” he said.
“The worst part is that the youths were armed and were in protected areas under ZimParks [Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority].
“We call upon the youths to desist from such incidences as these may result in loss of life.”
The post-mortem for the deceased was scheduled for January 3, but Chief Chundu intervened citing costs for the prolonged funerals.
The deceased, identified as Tawanda Mapako and Courage Maodza, are from Hurungwe’s ward 7.
It is reported that their bodies were airlifted by a helicopter late on Saturday due to the terrain where the shootout occurred along the Zambezi Valley Escarpment.
