THE government has resumed the construction of the 50 villas whose project started early this year ahead of the 44th Sadc Heads of State and Government Summit that was set for August this year.

The villas are expected to be completed by March 2025 at Zimbabwe Cyber City in Mt Hampden on the outskirts of Harare.

The cyber city, a US$500 million mixed-use development envisioned as Africa’s first smart city, is being funded by Mulk Holdings International and aims to revolutionise the country’s economic and social landscape.

Zimbabwe Cyber City is the first Mulk International real estate project in Zimbabwe managed through its locally registered subsidiary Zimbabwe Global Investment.

The city is designed to be a self-sustaining ecosystem that integrates cutting-edge technology with modern urban living, thereby setting a new standard for smart cities globally.

Speaking on the sidelines of Cyber City project tour today, special investment adviser to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Paul Tungwarara, confirmed the new targets for next year.

“Currently, we are doing the infrastructure, which is the roads and the water and the sewer system, which you can see that the first phase we are already moving and the contractors are on site.

“The total numbers we are targeting for March is that 50 villas should be done. Then when we finish that, we go to another phase, where it is including the shopping malls.

“The project is also including the tower. But obviously those, like the tower project, it has to start after houses are finished.”

Tungwarara said the US$500 million cyber city will have features like a water fountain and dancing waters.

“The overall development is estimated at nearly US$500 million, with plans featuring elaborate designs like a water fountain that will mirror the famed ‘dancing waters’ of Dubai.

“If you remember, on our groundbreaking, the president said, we want to bring Dubai here. What you are seeing there is called dancing waters, whereby those waters will be dancing according to the tune of the music.

“It is more like bringing in Dubai to Zimbabwe. That fountain is the first phase for the fountain. It was stretched to the second phase, the total meterage, I think it’s over 100, 150 metres of the whole fountain,” he said.
