Cosmas Chikwawawa (55), a Nssa research and schemes planning manager, appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing three counts of fraud.

A NATIONAL Social Security Authority (Nssa) boss has been charged for defrauding his employer of over ZWL14 million.

Cosmas Chikwawawa (55), a Nssa research and schemes planning manager, appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing three counts of fraud.

He was granted US$200 bail and remanded to January 15, next year.

The complainant is Nssa represented by Kudakwashe Mapfumo.

It is alleged that in 2023, Chikwawawa submitted fake school invoices for his three children claiming payment.

It is alleged that he lied that his children were learners at Emmanuel High School.

He allegedly claimed that first term school fees for each of his three children were pegged at ZWL$1 852 500 equivalent to US$2 758,97.

Nssa paid ZWL$1 852 500 per child, resulting in a total payment of ZWL$5 557 500 equivalent to US$8 276,91.

As a result of the misrepresentation, Nssa suffered an actual prejudice of ZWL$2 962 361,97 equivalent to US$4 411,91 and nothing was recovered.

In May last year, Chikwawawa submitted an invoice for the second term.

Nssa paid ZWL$$1 713 596-96 equivalent to US$1 540 per child, thereby prejudicing it of over ZWL$3 million.

He also used the same modus operandi for the third term last year.
