ZIMBABWE is set to experience more hours of load-shedding as Zesa Holdings experiences reduced electricity generation capacity due to a technical fault at Hwange Power Station.
In a statement yesterday, online watchdog Zimbabwe Price Check said many neighbourhoods did not get power for the whole day on Tuesday this week.
“If you did not get any power last night in your neighbourhood, you are not alone. Many people in Harare have reported the same issue.
“Zesa power was never restored yesterday evening. This means many households are now facing more than 24 hours of load-shedding,” the watchdog
said.
Zesa also confirmed the power shortage saying this had been compounded by low generation capacity at Kariba Power Station as a result of low water levels.
According to an update by Zesa, the fault at Hwange will be worked on to minimise its impact.
“Zesa Holdings would like to advise its valued stakeholders that the national power grid is currently experiencing reduced electricity generation capacity due to a technical fault at Hwange Power Station,” the power utility said.

“This has been further compounded by low generation capacity at Kariba Power Station, resulting from low water levels.
“Our technical teams are actively working to resolve the fault at Hwange to minimise the impact on our customers.”
According to Zesa, Hwange was producing 874 megawatts (MW) against an installed capacity of 1 560MW, Kariba (124,5MW), while independent power producers were producing 50MW yesterday.
