In a significant boost to healthcare services, Old Mutual Zimbabwe has donated state-of-the-art operating room equipment to Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo. This pivotal donation enhances the hospital's capacity to provide essential medical care to the community, aligning with the goals of the National Health Strategy (2021-2025).

Old Mutual's contribution marks a transformative step forward. “As Old Mutual, we believe in the mantra of 'Do Great Things Every Day.' This guiding principle drives us to make meaningful contributions that positively impact our communities,” said Lillian Mbayiwa, Old Mutual Zimbabwe’s Marketing, Public Affairs & Sustainability Executive. “Our recent donation reflects this commitment and aligns with our vision of fostering a healthier society.”

The donation supports the National Surgical, Obstetric and Anaesthesia Strategy (NSOAS) 2022-2025, which emphasizes strengthening primary healthcare by addressing critical gaps in surgical infrastructure. By enhancing Mater Dei Hospital's capabilities, Old Mutual ensures that the facility can provide timely, affordable, safe, and high-quality surgical services to the community.

Mbayiwa added, “We hope that a well-equipped operating room will assist in streamlining procedures and minimize the risks of complications, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care and experience improved outcomes during their surgical journeys.”

The newly acquired equipment has already been received by the hospital and is expected to be operational within two weeks. Staff at Mater Dei Hospital are excited about the initiative, recognizing its potential to improve patient outcomes and streamline surgical processes. “This donation will enhance patient flow and satisfaction, improving the overall efficiency of healthcare delivery,” Mbayiwa noted.

Mrs. M. Jamieson, Chief Executive Officer of Mater Dei Hospital, expressed gratitude, stating, “This donation marks a transformative step toward enhancing healthcare in our community. With a well-equipped operating room, we can significantly improve patient outcomes and provide the quality care that every individual deserves.”

As the hospital prepares to set up the new operating room, plans are underway for an inspection by relevant authorities. This upgraded surgical infrastructure will elevate the standard of medical care and effectively address the operational demands of healthcare delivery.

In summary, this donation not only aligns with national health strategies but also sets a precedent for future contributions toward improving healthcare in Zimbabwe. Old Mutual consistently demonstrates a steadfast commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all Zimbabweans.
