Back off from parking duties, Nduna told

FORMER Zanu PF legislator for Chegutu West, Dexter Nduna

FORMER Zanu PF legislator for Chegutu West, Dexter Nduna, has been forced to eat humble pie in his attempted hostile takeover of vehicle parking management in Harare and other cities.

A company linked to Nduna, Team Chapter, was planning to grab vehicle parking management from Harare’s City Parking starting on Monday.

City Parking has emerged as the Harare City Council’s cash cow, with Nduna now angling for its takeover.

Nduna was recently appointed Zanu PF resource mobilisation committee chairperson.

There were advertisements on social media by Nduna’s Team Chapter recently calling on jobless youths to pay varying amounts of money to be trained and recruited as vehicle parking marshals.

On Friday, Nduna announced on social media that his Team Chapter marshals would be in charge of vehicle parking management in Harare.

Sources said Nduna was later ordered to back off from any attempted grab of vehicle parking management in Harare and other cities.

NewsDay is reliably informed that he was summoned by members of the Central Intelligence Organisation.

On Monday, Nduna issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) apologising for his shenanigans.

“I have pulled down the tweet that had deployment of Team Chapter operatives for the 7th of October because it hadn’t followed the law to its fullest,” he said.

“The process of vetting is not yet done. I’m sorry for the tensions that this tweet would have created.”

In a Press statement on Saturday, City Parking warned motorists against being duped by Nduna’s Team Chapter marshals.

“City of Harare has not engaged Nduna or any other company or individuals to collect parking fees,” City Parking said.

“The threat by Nduna to disrupt parking operations is not a threat to City Parking only, but to businesses and property laws and shall be met with law enforcement and legal action.

“There is no place for anarchy, hooliganism and lawlessness in Zimbabwe.

“It is unfortunate that, left unaddressed, Nduna’s behaviour taints the image of the government and the political party he purports to be part of.”

Zanu PF director for information Farai Marapira was not reachable for comment yesterday.

Marapira recently told NewsDay that the ruling party had not deployed Nduna to hijack vehicle parking management from City Parking.

City Parking, however, said Nduna’s actions were a turnoff to investors.

“Nduna has no locus standi or legal basis to make such proclamations and, as such, we urge the public to ignore his baseless inflammatory utterances,” City Parking said.

“We caution members of the public not to risk their money by making payments to Nduna, his company or agents.”

Last week, Bulawayo City Council also shut the door on Nduna’s manoeuvres to hijack vehicle parking management from Trendy Three Investments (TTI). Nduna was recently in an embarrassing stunt where he faked his qualification as a lawyer.

He posted pictures of himself in a graduation gown celebrating his “academic success” at the University of Zimbabwe.

It later emerged that Nduna had tried to intimidate the law school to award him a pass after failing his examinations.
