TERRENCE Okeke Taylor, a keynote speaker at the #IdeasFestival2024, has been appointed executive chairman and investor of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).

Ideas Festival, founded by Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) chairman Trevor Ncube, is an immersive platform for exchanging innovative entrepreneurial ideas to shape the economy.

This year’s edition will be held in Nyanga from October 29 to November 1.

AAAI announced Taylor’s appointment on Monday this week.

“We are delighted to announce that Terrence Okeke Taylor will be joining our organisation as executive chairman and investor,” the association said in a statement.

“Terrence brings a wealth of experience spanning over two decades, including executive roles in learning and development at tech giants Google and Meta (Facebook).

“His expertise in cultivating talent, fostering growth, and instructional design will be invaluable to our training and education and consulting practice areas.”

Founded in 1979, AAAI (formerly the American Association for Artificial Intelligence) is a non-profit scientific society devoted to advancing the scientific understanding of the mechanisms underlying thought and intelligent behaviour as well as their embodiment in machines.

Born and raised in Sierra Leone, Taylor is an alumnus of Brown University and Harvard Business School.

His distinguished career in leadership development includes significant roles at CitiGroup and Discovery Health.

Since 2004, Taylor has been a lecturer at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), where he specialises in Africa strategy and opportunities and personal mastery.

“His commitment to advancing technology and education in Africa aligns perfectly with our organisation’s mission,” the association added.

Ncube is the founder and chairman of AMH, the private media company that publishes two weeklies, Zimbabwe Independent and The Standard, and a daily, NewsDay.

It also owns the online broadcasting company, Heart & Soul.

His weekly podcast, In Conversation with Trevor (ICWT), is sponsoring the Ideas Festival conference, with AMH and Heart & Soul being partners to the event.

AMH launched ICWT, an in-depth interview-style show in which Ncube sits down with various high-profile guests in a series of candid, hard-hitting conversations, in 2019.

According to Ncube, last year’s inaugural event was a huge success, characterised by high engagement levels and top-notch speakers.
