Local News
“During the incident, one occupant was shot on the chest and is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Bulawayo,” police said in a statement.

A FAMILY in Esigodini, Matabeleland South province, was left in shock after being attacked by two armed robbers who shot one of the members on the chest before they made off with US$45 000 cash on Saturday evening.

The robbery occurred around 1830 hours at a house in Habane Township.

“During the incident, one occupant was shot on the chest and is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Bulawayo,” police said in a statement.

In an unrelated case, police in Avondale, Harare, are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of eight suspected robbers who attacked an on-duty security guard  at a local security company along Lynnington Road, Strathaven, and stole US$23 175 cash, five firearms, seven pepper sprays and seven handcuffs.

The latest robberies come as police in Bulawayo are yet to account for a seven-member robbery gang that attacked a cash-transit vehicle at a  local bank and got away with  US$4 million in broad daylight.

Bulawayo acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele yesterday told Southern Eye that the suspects were still on the run.

“The incident occurred where the cameras were not yet installed by the police. We urge the business community to install cameras and link them with the police for monitoring so that such incidents won't occur,” she said.

“We also have emergency numbers as police so that the public should be aware and call in occurrence of such incidents.”
