NINE Registrar-General’s Office officials have appeared in court for fraudulently processing the issuance of identity documents and passports to four Cameroonian nationals.

Ruramai Mutyatya, Maureen Natasha Munemo, Chiedza Hiomani, Romio Shonhiwa, Marian Roman, Tanaka Magaya, Edith Moto, Grace Kapungu and Lackmore Chinokokora are facing charges of criminal abuse of office.

They are jointly charged with three cleaners at the RG’s office - Neria Sombi, Trymore Chipanga and Acid Asidi.

The group appeared before Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.

They were all remanded in custody.

They are represented by lawyers Enock Nengomasha, Arthur Gurira and Lucky Mauwa.

It is in State’s case that on September 17 this year, the group facilitated the issuance of passports to the Cameroonians who were in transit to South Africa.

The Cameroonians were arrested at Beitbridge border post on their way to the neighbouring country by Zimbabwean immigration officers after they failed to respond to questions asked in vernacular Shona.

The foreigners implicated the RG’s Office officials.

Lancelot Mutsokoti represented the State.
