TWO Harare men have appeared in court for allegedly defrauding the Grain Marketing Board  (GMB) of US$1 350 000 after they hacked the company’s email accounts.

Blessing Nhapata (40) and Challenge Phiri (40) were charged with fraud when they appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.

The duo was remanded in custody to Friday for bail application.

The complainant is the GMB represented by Misheck Mupondiwa (47), the company’s integrity officer.

Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje said on September 10 this year, the duo allegedly hacked the email of Parrence Chikerema, a GMB accountant.

The court heard that the accused then sent messages instructing  the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe and AFC Bank to transfer US$1 200 000 and US$150 000 respectively from the GMB account into Success Microfinance Treasury’s bank account .

The matter was then reported at Harare Central Police Station, leading to the pair’s arrest.
