Health ministry Permanent secretary, Aspect Maunganidze, emphasized the impact these warehouses will have on Zimbabwe’s healthcare system.

The Health and Child Care ministry has commissioned several NatPharm warehouses across the country in an effort to strengthen healthcare logistics in Zimbabwe.

Health ministry Permanent secretary, Aspect Maunganidze, emphasized the impact these warehouses will have on Zimbabwe’s healthcare system.

“This initiative marks a significant milestone in our efforts to modernize health logistics and ensure better access to medicines across the country. We are determined to improve service delivery, especially in rural and remote areas where medicine shortages have been a challenge,” Maunganidze said.

The warehouses, located in key cities such as Harare, Mutare, Bulawayo, and Masvingo, will ensure that medicines are properly stored and distributed, minimizing the outsourcing of storage services.

“These warehouses are not just storage facilities; they are part of a larger plan to improve the overall health system. By ensuring the safety and timely distribution of medicines, we are directly improving patient outcomes,” Maunganidze added.

The newly commissioned warehouse in Mutare, funded through a US$6 million grant from the Global Fund, is one of the largest, covering 2,500 square meters.

NatPharm Munyaradzi Musiiwa spokesperson said the facilities will boost their capacity to meet demand.

“The construction of these warehouses demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring a reliable and consistent supply of essential medicines. These facilities will help us meet demand efficiently and reduce medicine stock-outs,” he said.

On Friday, the ministry was expected to officially commission the new NatPharm warehouse in Masvingo.
