TAFADZWA Nkonde (33) has been arraigned before Chinhoyi magistrates court

TAFADZWA Nkonde (33) has been arraigned before Chinhoyi magistrates court for allegedly raping and subsequently murdering a woman for turning down his sexual request.

In a statement on Thursday, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said allegations are that on August 30 this year, Nkonde attacked the now deceased when she was walking to her garden in the Dandadale area of Chinhoyi.

Nkonde allegedly accosted the victim and offered her five dollars for sex, which she refused leading to the former getting agitated.

“He grabbed the now-deceased’s neck from behind and dragged (her) into the bushes where he raped her once,” said the NPAZ.

“After raping the now-deceased, he took a bottle of pesticide that was in the complainant’s handbag and shoved the contents down her throat.”

Following the incident, the suspect fled into the nearby bushes and shortly thereafter, a passerby heard faint groaning sounds, prompting investigations.

“The accused person reappeared on the scene and was positively identified by the now-deceased who narrated her ordeal to the witnesses,” NPAZ has said.

The victim was rushed to the hospital where she died upon admission and Nkonde was remanded in custody to September 18.
