SIX people, among them a woman and her infant, died on the spot following a head-on collision at the 223 kilometre peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway this morning, NewsDay can report.
The deceased woman and her child were thrown out of one the vehicles during the collision , before the vehicles burst into flames.
Police officer commanding Beitbridge district Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube confirmed the accident, which has been attributed to suspected human error.
“Five of the deceased were burnt beyond recognition in the Ford Ranger dragged after the impact. Pieces of remains of a woman and a toddler were picked up at the scene. Investigations as to what caused the accident at a straight stretch are on," said Ncube.
Meanwhile, police have said a detailed report of the accident will be released later today.
