The court heard that the women assaulted the complainant, Mavis Mada (18), after accusing her of “gossiping” in the village.

FIVE Hwedza women who filmed themselves assaulting a girl before inserting a stick into her privates have been jailed five years each.

Marondera magistrate Letwin Rwodzi yesterday convicted the accused persons, who included four juveniles, two aged 17 and one aged 16 and another aged 19, of aggravated indecent assault, cyberbullying, unlawful detention and assault.

Vimbai Mike (19) and a 17-year-old who was treated differently because she is married with two children, were sentenced each to an effective five years for indecent assault, one year for cyberbullying for posting the video on social media, one year for unlawful detention and another year for assault which will, however, run concurrently.

The other three juveniles were released into the custody of their guardians on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that the women assaulted the complainant, Mavis Mada (18), after accusing her of “gossiping” in the village.

On July 4, the group lured Mada of Mupfuri village on the pretext of giving her vegetable seedlings.

They locked her in a hut and stripped her naked before taking turns to assault her with switches. They then inserted three sticks in her privates while recording.
