ZANU PF central committee member Mike Chimombe and his business partner Moses Mpofu were yesterday indicted to the High Court for trial in a case in which they are alleged to have defrauded the government of more than US$7 million in a presidential goat scheme.

The matter appeared before Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.

Chimombe and Mpofu are being represented by Tapson Dzvetero and Arshiel Mugiya.

Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje said the State was ready to proceed with the trial at the High Court from October 1 to 4 this year.

He said the State had enough evidence, which includes a tax clearance certificate, the valuation of tender documents from the Lands ministry, minutes of the meeting with Blackdeck and bank statements.

He said the State would rely on these documents during trial.

Chimombe and Mpofu allegedly forged a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) tax clearance certificate and a National Social Security Authority (NSSA) compliance certificate in the name of Blackdeck (Private) Limited.

The State is alleging that Blackdeck misrepresented that it was in full compliance with Zimra and NSSA requirements, yet investigations indicated the QR code and the reference on NSSA compliance certificate were issued to a totally different company.

Chimombe and Mpofu allegedly defrauded government of more than US$7 million meant for the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.
