Hakata, CCC 39 application for discharge thrown out

Hakata and the CCC members were arrested last year while holding an electoral campaign road show at Machipisa shopping centre, Highfield, Harare.

Harare magistrate Sharon Rakafa on Monday dismissed opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Glen View South Member of Parliament, Grandmore Hakata and 39 other party members' application for discharge in a case they were arrested for holding an unsanctioned car rally last year.

In her ruling magistrate Rakafa said the accused persons have a case to answer since six witnesses who testified confirmed that the CCC members were singing slogans and chanting "Ngapinde hake mukomana ".

The matter was deferred to August 12 for continuation of trial .

The CCC members are represented by Kudzai Kadzere from the Zimbabwe Human Rights.

Hakata and the CCC members were arrested last year while holding an electoral campaign road show at Machipisa shopping centre, Highfield, Harare.

According to police, the CCC had notified authorities about a campaign rally at Churu Farm, but diverted from the planned location resulting in the arrest.
