HARARE City Council (HCC) metropolitan police boss Chief Superintendent Evans Bhema has retired after serving at the local authority since 1980.
The Water and Allied Workers Union WAWUZ hosted a farewell party for him on Wednesday.
HCC executive manager in the town clerk department and former Zimbabwe Republic Police commissioner, Obeylaw Moyo, said they would have a hard time finding a replacement.
“Chief Superintendent Bhema is a charismatic leader and is a darling of his subordinates because he does well for them,” Moyo said.
Bhema joined the City of Harare Traffic Enforcement Section in 1980 and rose through the ranks to the position of superintendent.
He was transferred to Harare metropolitan police in 2019 where he later assumed his current position.
WAWUZ acting president Wengai Raymond Mirimi showered praise on Bhema for serving the organisation for more than 42 years.
“Chief Superintendent Bhema has worked for the City of Harare for 42 and half years and throughout all these years, he has never let the organisation down,” he said.
