A video showing an alleged thief being tied and lifted into the air on a loader bucket at the instruction of a Chinese manager at a Bindura mine has sparked outrage.

It has since emerged that the gory footage is from Makanga Mine and that the man, suspected to be an employee, was being punished for allegedly stealing diesel.

The video, which has gone viral online, has ignited calls for the manager's immediate arrest

The Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) condemned the act as "appalling, vile, inhumane and savage," while demanding a swift investigation into the mine's labour practices.

"This barbaric act is a blatant violation of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which guarantees the right to personal security and freedom from torture or cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment,” reads a statement shared by ZMF.

“We will not stand idly while our members are subjected to such egregious abuse.

“ZMF vehemently condemns this despicable act and demands immediate arrest and prosecution of the Chinese boss responsible, thorough investigation into the mine’s labour practices and swift action against any violations.”

This is not the first time such an incident has come to light. Earlier this year, a Chinese miner allegedly shot and killed a local in Gokwe.

ZMF highlighted a pattern of abuse and called on the government to protect its citizens.

The Bindura video has become a rallying point, with many urging others to share it and demand justice for the victims.

It raised serious concerns about the treatment of Zimbabwean workers by foreign investors and the government's ability to safeguard its citizens' rights.
