THE National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has swooped on illegal settlers for reportedly engaging in sexual activities and cooking food on its train wagons leading to vandalism of company property.
The operation saw 20 people believed to have been living in the train wagons being arraigned before Harare magistrate Apollonia Marutya on Saturday last week.
Marutya remanded them in custody to today for bail applications.
Arrested were Munyaradzi Mashatini, Gedion Karimusosa (21), Onias Madembo (23), Takunda Maraine (23), Memory Mushayi, Tinotenda Abraham (19), Shelter Songore (30) and Tapiwa Samanga (24).
Others included Tendai Mhuru (28), Tirivashoma Kufakwashe (43), Prince Moyo (25),Tanaka Mpofu (20), Praisemore Sibanda (28), Lameck Timothy (26), Macdonald Machava (28), Tinashe Machingura (34), Sandra Muzhara (28), Petronella Chikava (34), Modester Nhamoyenzou (25) and Florence Matsikira (30).
The complainant in this case is the NRZ represented by Lancelot Mabvudzi a loss control officer.
Prosecutor Tinotenda Masimba alleged that on June 7 this year, at NRZ yard in Harare, Mabvudzi was on patrol in the company of his colleague Redson Barson and they came across the accused people who were in train wagons, which are prohibited.
They allegedly found the accused persons engaging in various activities including cooking food, drinking illicit substances and being intimate.

Mabvudzi and Barson apprehended the accused persons.
They were all taken to the Harare Central Police Station.
