JOURNALISTS from NewsDay and other private media houses were yesterday briefly barred from covering an integrity pledge signing ceremony between the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ).
RBZ security officials initially said the event was meant to be covered by ZBC, even though it was publicised to all media houses authorised to cover it.
The journalists were only granted access several minutes after the event had started.
The integrity pledge signing ceremony was presided over by RBZ governor John Mushayavanhu and Zacc chairperson Michael Reza.
In a statement, Reza encouraged Mushayavanhu and other RBZ officials to be accountable and free from corruption.
“The public commitment to uphold integrity by the governor and other senior officials is a concrete affirmation that integrity is the life and bloodline of the RBZ. It is a total rejection of dubious conduct in the implementation of the country’s monetary policies,” Reza said.
“For the governor of the RBZ, integrity ensures that decisions are made in the best interest of the nation and free from corruption.
“It guarantees that the RBZ operates transparently and accountably, fostering a culture of trust and confidence among the public and international partners.”
