THREE men have been arrested after they allegedly shot, assaulted and kidnapped police details in Gazaland, Highfield, in Harare on Wednesday for blocking their way.

Samuel Muronzi (24), Lionel Rupiya (34) and Jonathan Chishiri (30), represented by Munyaradzi Bwanya of Jiti Law Chambers, were granted US$200 bail each and remanded to July 4 pending further investigations.

Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi presided over the matter.

Prosecutor Thomas Chanakira alleged that on Wednesday, the three complained to the police details that they had blocked their way for too long after parking their patrol vehicle on the roadside along a road in Gazaland.

Chanakira told the court that the policemen introduced themselves to the three before driving away.

However, the State alleges that Muronzi, Rupiya and Chishiri pursued the policemen while driving at high speed before blocking their way.

Muronzi allegedly disembarked from the vehicle and opened the policemen’s motor vehicle door before dragging the driver out of the car.

The court also heard that Muronzi noticed that the driver was armed and had a tussle with him intending to take the firearm.

The firearm reportedly discharged and shot the policemen in the knee.

Muronzi and his co-accused are facing a further charge of taking charge of all the policemen’s weapons, kidnapping and assaulting them while threatening to take them to an unknown place.

They allegedly drove towards Glen Norah Police Station, where the complainants shouted for help to their counterparts who were guarding the gate, leading to the trio’s arrest.
