A GWERU-BASED non-governmental organisation Transformer of Child Hopes Organisation of Zimbabwe (Tochoz) is using music and other interventions to empower learners from Grade 1 to Form 6.
Speaking to NewsDay, Tochoz chairperson David Chinaka said the organisation’s interventions were meant to change lives.
“Tochoz will go out to restore the children’s shattered hopes to those who have been affected and reignite vision and passion in life through the provision of skills training, sustainable development projects, counselling and financial assistance for the underprivileged,” he said.
“We create platforms to inspire learners to work hard both academically and socially, discover and implement their talents through discussions and our music.”
Chinaka said they had applied to the Primary and Secondary Education ministry for the establishment of This Is Life empowerment clubs in schools.
Although the organisation has made some strides in assisting disadvantaged youths with school fees, it still encounters a number of challenges which affect its day-to-day operations.
“Our movements are restricted to reach out to the most vulnerable children, hence a vehicle is needed so that we will be able to have sessions in schools and communities,” Chinaka said.
“There is massive shortage of the required teaching and learning materials such as chargeable audio speakers and microphones to cater for huge crowds, stationery, projectors, laptops and printers.

“Moreso, funds are needed to purchase land for the construction of the organisation’s offices and establishment of sustainable development projects.”
Currently, Tochoz is operating from a residential stand in Mkoba 18, Gweru.
