Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large to Europe and the Americas, Uebert Angel, is sponsoring thousands of students under the presidential scholarship.
Through his private funding of the OPEAAL-Mnangagwa Scholarship, Angel said the sponsorship is in line with his commitment to the educational ideals championed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The initiative aims to facilitate the academic journeys of Zimbabwean students, helping them to achieve their aspirations.
The education situation in Zimbabwe has been a cause for concern, with many students from underprivileged backgrounds struggling to access higher education due to financial constraints.

The cost of education has risen significantly in recent years, making it out of reach for many families.
This has resulted in a large number of young people being unable to pursue their dreams and contribute to the country's development.
However, the OPEAAL-Mnangagwa Scholarship program has assisted over 10,000 university and college students with their tuition fees since its inception.
“With an ambitious target to extend support to 100,000 students in the upcoming five years, Ambassador Angel’s efforts stand as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the nation’s youth,” a spokesperson of the Ambassador said in a statement
“The scholarship program, founded on principles of inclusivity and equality, is awarded irrespective of the recipients’ political affiliations, echoing President Mnangagwa’s vision of advancing education for all Zimbabweans.
“This non-partisan approach ensures that support reaches the widest possible spectrum of students, fostering an environment of unity and growth. This is particularly crucial in a country where political divisions have often hindered progress and development.”
Educational institutions, including the National University of Science and Technology, Belvedere Technical College, and Harare Polytechnic, have expressed their gratitude towards Angel’s contributions, the statement adds.
“Angel’s persistence in advocating for the development of practical skills through tertiary education highlights the critical role such knowledge plays in national progress. By providing opportunities for young people to gain knowledge and skills, Ambassador Angel is contributing to the country's future prosperity and development,” the statement reads.
“This initiative is not a first for Ambassador Angel, whose history of supporting education dates back many years, evidenced by his past actions in support of congregants he leads at Spirit Embassy, the GoodNews Church, and beyond.”
