VENDORS at the newly-opened and much-hyped Egodini Terminus in Bulawayo have raised concern over low business coupled with high rentals, saying if the situation continues, it will cripple their operations.
“Business is low, our bays have been positioned at a secluded place with no chance of visibility. So customers are not aware of our wares. People come here to get their transport only. They do not know that we are now at their disposal, so at the end of the day, our business is affected, yet we are supposed to raise money for rentals and fend for our children,” complained a vendor, who declined to be named.
“On top of that, we cannot even rent out our bays because it is not allowed. Imagine expecting a tenant to come and pay your rent when we, as the owners, are failing to make money.”
Indications are that the bus terminus is becoming a hotspot for drug and substance abuse.
Vendors were optimistic that they will start realising brisk business only after the completion of the next phases of the project.
“Maybe with time, when they finish the other phases under construction, we will see a change,” another vendor said.
A Terracotta Private Limited representative only identified as Moyo said: “Vendors should visit our office if they face any challenges, as subletting is strictly against the policy.”
