Blessing Mutota was facing three counts of rape and two counts of robbery.

A SERIAL robber and rapist has been jailed 25 years by Harare magistrate Fadzai Mtombeni.

Blessing Mutota was facing three counts of rape and two counts of robbery.

“The normal range of sentence for rape is 15 to 20 years. The younger the victim, the more the sentence,” Mtombeni said.

“For unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances, the offences were committed at night and showed that there was preplanning.”

The State proved that Mutota threatened to shoot one of the victims before robbing them of their money.

State prosecutor Kelvin Munyimi told the court that Mutota used the same modus operandi, where he would break into people’s homes and rape his victims, especially young girls.

The State proved that Mutota would threaten the girls with a gun and a knife before raping them.
