POLICE officers in Bulawayo have arrested two suspects in connection with a stock theft case after intercepting a truck carrying 19 cattle, which the duo failed to account for.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube yesterday confirmed the arrest of the alleged cattle rustlers after being found in possession of the beasts.
The herd is said to have been stolen from Insiza district with police managing to recover 17 live beasts while the remaining two had died in the truck.
Ncube identified the suspects as Edmore Bhibi (46) and Farai Phambukani (28) who both reside at Emganwini suburb in Bulawayo.
“The two were intercepted around Esigodini Lewellen area driving a motor vehicle loaded with 19 heads of cattle after they were spotted in the insiza area by an informant who tried to stop them but they fled driving towards Bulawayo," Ncube said.
"The said informant then followed them by phoning police officers until he got in touch with Bulawayo Central Police officers which led to the arrest of the accused persons. On searching the truck it was realised that the two were carrying 19 heads of cattle, 13 were cows and six were oxen and they did not have any papers to suggest that they were transporting those cattle legally."
Ncube hailed members of the public for their involvement in combating crime which has led to the recovery of 19 beasts.
“We would like to appreciate the informant who is part of the members of the public and stakeholders for having such concern and assisting in law enforcement which led to the arrest and recovery of 19 heads of cattle even though two of them have since died,” said Ncube.

Ncube said the two suspects are in police custody and are currently assisting police with further investigations.
