Civic group in anti-drugs campaign

Local News
Over the past few years, Zimbabwe has been battling an unprecedented increase in drug abuse, especially among teenagers.

A NON-PROFIT-MAKING organisation, Mambo Jephitar Foundation, has stepped up efforts to eliminate drug  abuse in Zvishavane through sport.

The organisation recently established a football academy targeting teenagers.

“The main thrust of this academy is centred on removing kids from this drug infested environment by keeping them busy with what they enjoy the most,” the group’s director Jephitar Mambo said.

“It is believed that in less than five consecutive free hours a child may be successfully taught to abuse two different drugs believing they are just killing time.

“So having developed these children my main goal is seeing them become top players such that we can even see them going abroad and making our international football competitive hence strengthening even our national team.”

His academy plays in the Zvishavane Under-14 Junior Soccer League.
