KADOMA City Council workers have declared incapacitation demanding payment of their outstanding two months’ salaries and a 13th cheque.
In a letter addressed to town clerk Malvern Madondo and mayor Nigel Ruzario dated November 27, the workers said they were living miserable lives.
They copied the letter to the Zimbabwe Urban Council Workers’ Union, Zimbabwe Urban and Rural Council Workers Union and all City of Kadoma head of departments.
They accused management of failing to address their concerns.
“It is with great disappointment that the management letter dated November 24 does not even attempt to address the issues that prompted incapacitation and the proposed job action. The letter is bankrupt of ways that address the following issues raised by the employees,” they said.
“Our salaries have continually been eroded by the fact that the management will only pay what is only on the pay schedule for that particular month regardless of the inevitable changes in the exchange rate.
“The council should find a way of cushioning employees from inflation which weighs heavily on the poor workers who have to grapple with basic things like accommodation, food and general sustenance every single day.”
In response, human resources manager Fidelis Matanhire outlined a payment plan to clear the salary arrears.

“We have called for a meeting to find a lasting solution to the problems you raised in your letter,” he said.
“Management is committed to pay in batches every week until the situation improves.”
Kadoma council has almost 400 employees.
