A 31-YEAR-OLD Marondera woman on Wednesday appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court facing charges of trafficking maids to Oman in violation of the Trafficking in Persons Act.
Karen Pamela Teguru, who was represented by Kingston Mukanganwi, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.
Gofa remanded her in custody to early next month pending trial.
Allegations are that between January and August 2022, Teguru connived with one Hamidah, believed to be in Oman, and others who are still at large, to traffick Portia Kalesi and Namatirai Muchacha to Oman.
It is alleged Teguru and her accomplices assigned each other roles where they would process travel documents and medical examinations for the complainants.
After doing all the paperwork, they took them to Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport destined for Oman instead of Dubai as earlier promised.
The complainants allegedly realised that they had been duped upon arrival at Muscat International Airport in Oman.
In Oman, Kalesi and Muchacha were received by Hamidah, who confiscated their travel documents and sold them into slavery as housemaids.

The matter came to light when the complainants reported the matter to their relatives back home, who, in turn, reported to the police.
The complainants fled from their abusers and linked up with a Zimbabwean delegation which was dispatched to Oman to repatriate them.
