GOVERNMENT has rescinded its decision to bar Grade Seven pupils from going on holiday after their final examinations last week.
Initially, the government had ordered the pupils to continue attending classes. It also barred them from embarking on educational trips until the end of the term as part of measures to safeguard them against engaging in illegal activities.
But on Friday, Primary and Secondary Education secretary Moses Mhike wrote to chief directors, provincial directors, and other stakeholders advising of the government’s decision to reverse the directive.
“The circular cancels circular number 17 of 2023 on compulsory organised learning activities post Grade 7 examinations,” Mhike wrote.
“The cancellation therefore means the Grade 7 pupils must be allowed to close school. Those schools that had planned and budgeted for educational school trips should proceed as such in conformity with Circular P54.”
